New bridal boutique aims to be #1 resource for Filipino weddings around the world – with a socially conscious twist
TORONTO, ONTARIO, July 17th, 2019 — Sinta & Co. is a new conscious wedding boutique that has launched to empower couples all around the world to celebrate their Filipino heritage and culture on their wedding day. Sinta & Co. offers Filipino wedding accessories, ceremony essentials, and practical planning tips to help every couple incorporate Filipino wedding traditions into their big day.
According to research from WeddingWire in 2019, 58% of couples are now marrying outside of their race, religion, ethnic, or regional background. Nearly 1 in 5 couples incorporate cultural elements related to race or religion into their ceremony to pay homage to their background.
In fact, the boutique was born out of the co-founders’ experience of planning their own wedding. Gelaine Santiago is a proud Filipina, born in Bulacan, Philippines and raised in Toronto. Jérôme Gagnon-Voyer is a proud French-Canadien from Québec. When they wed in June 2018, they set out to plan a wedding that incorporated both cultures and family heritage in meaningful ways.
“We realized that there were very few resources online to learn about Filipino wedding traditions and it was quite challenging to find the ceremony essentials outside of the Philippines,” says Santiago. “After speaking with other friends in our community, we quickly realized this wasn't just a challenge we faced, but that couples faced around the world.
Meaning “love” in Tagalog, “sinta” aims to be a celebration of the beauty of Filipino heritage, craftsmanship, and culture on your wedding day. The new company is rooted in the same ethical and cultural ethos of its parent company Cambio & Co. of ensuring living wages for artisans, respecting the Philippines islands, and preserving Filipino indigenous traditions.
“Weddings, after all, go beyond the couple themselves,” says Gagnon-Voyer. “They're also a celebration of all the people who have come before us, who are with us today, and who represent the future.”
